“…at the time, he was clear-headed”.

“He pulled a lot of loose ends of the band together. He was the most talented musician in the room. He was just a joy, it was really fun. He would be dancing in the studio as we were playing tracks. He could play a lot of things, knew a lot of stuff. Tom Donahue gave Sly free access to studio time, so he had experience, when we had none. His influence was very positive. And at the time, he was clear-headed”

 - guitarist i The Beau Brummels Ron Elliott om Sly Stone i bogen, ‘Urban Spaceman And Wayfaring Strangers’, der er skrevet af Richie Unterberger.

Jeg samler stadigvæk op på Countryrock #2. Jesper Larsen fortalte undervejs i udsendelsen, at Sly Stone, før han overhovedet havde tænkt på The Family Stone, producerede San Francisco-bandet The Beau Brummels debut-lp, ’Introducing The Beau Brummels’, for det kortlivede (1964-66) plademærke, Autumm.

Det var nu ikke debuten, der kom i 1965, som vi talte om i programmet, men albummet ’Bradley's Barn’ fra 1968, hvor bandet, eller det der var tilbage af det, var begyndt at spille countryrock.

The Beau Brummels anno 1965.

Og 1968…

Tom Donahue var en lokal radio-dj, der etablerede Autumm Records sammen med vennen Bob Mitchell.

Tillykke til Sly Stone, der fylder 73 år i dag.
