Black girl, black girl, don't lie to me
Where did you stay last night?
I stayed in the pines where the sun never shines
And shivered when the cold wind blows.

The longest train I ever saw
Went down that Georgia line
The engine passed at 6 o'clock
The cab passed by at 9.
In the pines, in the pines, where the sun never shines
And we shiver when the cold wind blows.
I asked my captain for the time of day
He said he throwed his watch away
A long steel rail and a short crosstie
I'm on my way back home.
Little girl, little girl, what have I done
That makes you treat me so?
You caused me to weep, you caused me to moan
You caused me to leave my home.

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me, where did you sleep last night?
In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through.
Her husband was a hard-working man
Just about a mile from here
His head was found in the driver's wheel
But his body never was found.
My girl, my girl, where will you go?
I'm going where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through.
