“The night before we
left for Chicago, David had been out on the town. He was staying over at Barbara
Troiani’s house and they had got back at six in the morning, drunk out of their
heads. I showed up at eight with a limousine. David was still drunk and Barbara
was at the sewing machine putting the finishing touches to what he was going to
wear to the meeting. We get to Chicago and are taken into this boardroom with
the largest table I’ve ever seen in my life, then in comes Irwin Steinberg, Mike
Gormley from publicity and all these heads of departments that we’ve never met
before. It was a really important meeting to determine how we could utilize David
to be a voice to the press when all of a sudden he leans forward, his head
smashes down on the table and he’s fallen asleep.”
